Singer Shakira and longtime boyfriend Gerard Pique have officially split after 11 years of being together. In a joint statement released on Saturday, 4th June, they both ensured on the well being of their children as priority.
“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the couple’s statement reads, as reported by People. “We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”
Shakira and Gerard have been together since 2011. She met the Barcelona defender while promoting her 2010 world cup “Waka Waka”. They have two boys- Milan 9 and Sasha 7.
Despite being together for over a decade, they never tied the knot. The split confirmation comes after EL Periodica in Spain claimed that Gerard Pique has moved out of the family home.
The split confirmation comes after the singer confirmed and addressed photos of herself in an ambulance. She clarified the situation on a Twitter post.
“I just wanted to let you know that those photos are from last weekend (the 28th) when my dad unfortunately had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now.”
