by Gloria Chisimdi

Elesin Oba- The King’s Horseman will premier at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 2022. The movie will be featured in the prestigious special presentation category; the first Yoruba language film to do so. The movie is produced by Ebonylife Films and their partner – Netflix.

The original Death and the King’s Horseman was a stage play written by Prof. Wole Soyinka. Prof Wole Soyinka is a recipient of the Africa’s first Nobel Prize of Peace for literature in 1986. Elesin Oba is the first of Soyinka’s work made into a feature film.

The Ebonylife Film owner, Mo Abudu said she acquired the right to Death and the King’s Horseman 10 years ago from the writer himself. This took place after several meetings after he featured on her show, “Moments with Mo.”
